MORE THAN 1 MILLION CHILDREN AGED 3 - 5 DON'T ATTEND EARLY CHILDHOOD DEVELOPMENT CENTRES IN SOUTH AFRICA

78% of ECD Practitioners are not qualified for pre-school level

23% of ECD practitioners are not qualified at all

Impoverished communities in South Africa have a growing need to educate children in the early childhood phase of their development. However, parents in these communities have limited access and resources to send their children to high quality ECD service providers – and there are few ECD practitioners who are qualified to effectively equip young children.

The People Project 360 Degrees and NewBridge Corporate provide opportunities to empower people who are passionate about nurturing fundamental skills in young children and equipping them for formal education – including those already engaged in this field.

The programme is focused on townships, informal settlements, peri-urban and urban locations in Gauteng, KZN, Western, Northern and Eastern Cape – and aims to recruit, educate and certify 500 black work-seekers.

The National Certificate in Early Childhood Development is a 24-month NQF Level 5 qualification, that also provides a bridge to formal Level 6 learning programmes for ECD educators.
